Nissan Egypt as part of its commitment to play a role in supporting the Egyptian economy participated in Invest for Africa 2019, held at the New Administrative Capital on the 22nd and 23rd of November. The event is organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Investments and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Invest for Africa 2019 is held under the auspices and the attendance of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. The event also witnessed the attendance of Eng. Mostafa Madbouly, Egyptian Prime Minister, a group of African high officials, and heads of international corporations working in Egypt. Mr. Mike Whitfield spoke about the industrial investments in Africa, in a session that witnessed the participation of H.E. Amr Nassar, Minister of Trade and Industry. The participation of Whitfield was in the session "Mobilizing Investments for Africa's Industrial Transformation. The session witnessed the attendance of H.E. Ibrahim Patel, the Minister of Trade and Industry, South Africa, Eng. Yehia Zaki, Suez Canal Economic Zone Chairman, Mr. Peter Jan Rooij, Deputy Regional Director for Africa, ILO, Mr. Mike Whitfield Chairman and Managing Director of Nissan Motor Egypt and chairman of Africa South, Mrs. Janet Heckman, Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and Eng. Mohamed El Sweedy Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Industries. Mike Whitfield said during his speech, “We thank the Egyptian government and the Ministry of Investments for this initiative to address the best means to invest in Africa through Egypt, Africa’s Northern gateway, and one of the most strategic nations and markets in the region.” Mike added that the motorization rates in Africa are far less than other continents. This represents massive opportunities for corporations working in the automotive field. Mike Whitfield pointed out to the experience of Nissan in South Africa as the company has been operating in the country for more than 60 years. Nissan accomplished many achievements due to the presence of long-term policies for investments and the cooperation of the government. Nissan Motor Egypt Chairman and Managing Director added, “We aim to achieve the same successes in Egypt. The accomplishment of the desired results of the investments in the automotive sector in Egypt requires the collaboration of all parties including decision makers and the private sector.” Mike Whitfield added that Nissan Motor Egypt is the only 100% owned global OEM in Egypt. We believe that the Egyptian market is promising with 100 million people and with a GDP that would exceed 6%in the future Nissan Motor Egypt fully supports the Egyptian government’s aims to develop the automotive sector in Egypt and looks forward to working with all stakeholders to develop a strong and sustainable auto industry in Egypt in the years ahead
